God, Gods, and Goddesses OH MY, the evolution of worship
So far most scientists would put the arrival of Homo Sapiens somewhere between 250,000 and 150,000 years ago. Somewhere around 50,000 years ago scientists started to find certain items contained within dig sites that were not prevalent before this time frame, jewelery fashioned out of various materials started to appear with more frequency, statues of obese females in various positions, ornate decorations on clothing and apparel such as pouches, and many other new discoveries that showed that modern man was beginning to express themselves in new and often difficult to interpret ways.
We know that sometime in our distant past humans started to worship the Sun, the Moon, the Planets, and Various Stars ( but exactly how before writing is left up to speculation ) as this belief was carried on with the invention of writing by the Sumerians, Egyptians, Elamites and various others. It is clear that from a simple progression that these Bodies were slowly over time evolving into physical human representations of these bodies.
The morning star became - Inanna, Ishtar, Athtart, Aphrodite, and Venus to name some of the well know
The Sun became - Utu, Tutu, Shamash, Mithra, Shapash, Ra, Helios, Sol, and many others.
The Moon became - Nanna, Sin, Nut, and others.
Etc, Etc, .
This process is repeated by many early civilizations, and the current names of our planets are in fact mostly named after ancient Gods...
this is of course not true with all religions, but many of our earliest most influential religions carried this belief on into the centuries.
The idea that one main God ruled supreme is also an very ancient idea, and religion in the Levant and middle east slowly shifted to only one God, and as in Christianity and others the lessor Gods simply became Angels, Messengers, Saints, etc, but they never really went away.
Just a thought.
